'Women Talking' director Sarah Polley urges fans to watch 'Incredible' 'Till despite Oscars payoff

Women Talking writer and director Sarah Polley shows her support for Till.

After the Chinonye Chukwu-directed film was not nominated for any awards at the upcoming 95th Academy Awards, Polley on Thursday morning retweeted two videos of Till actress Danielle Deadwyler speaking at the National Board of Review event on January 8.

"This is how Danielle Deadwyler gives a speech... I'd love to see her give one that was broadcast to millions," Polley, 44, wrote.

Deadwyler, 40, was shut out of the Oscars conversation for best actress as the nominations were announced Tuesday, though she was nominated for the upcoming Screen Actors Guild Awards and 2023 BAFTA Awards and earlier in the season received the Gotham Award for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role. at the end of last year.

A few hours later, Polley took to Twitter again to share a short clip from Till that had been doing the rounds on the social media platform, urging her followers to "watch" the clip and seek out the film in its entirety.

"Sorry, I don't want this to become a Danielle Deadwyler fan account, but what if," Polley wrote. "Please watch. And go see this incredible movie." In a previous tweet, she added that Deadwyler "gave one of the best performances of all time in Till and the woman speaks like no other human. Always different, always brilliant beyond comprehension."

Polley earned a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and Women Talking was also nominated for Best Picture.

Black actors were shut out of the Best Actress Oscar race this year, including Viola Davis, who received a Golden Globe and SAG nomination for The King of Women, which received no nominations. Polley also highlighted Woman King, tweeting: "Today is a good day to revisit this historic film - The Woman King - from the incredible @GPBmadeit and her brilliant team."

Cate Blanchett (Tar), Ana de Armas (Blonde), Andrea Riseborough (To Leslie), Michelle Williams (The Fabelmans) and Michelle Yeoh (Everything Everywhere, At Once) were the five stars nominated by the Academy for Best Actress.

Director Till Chukwu took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a picture of herself posing with civil rights activist Myrlie Evers-Williams at the film's Los Angeles premiere in October, as she shared criticism of the "blatant misogyny against black women."

"We live in a world and work in industries so aggressively committed to promoting whiteness and perpetuating unabashed misogyny against black women," the director wrote in a caption alongside the photo.

“Yet,” Chukwu continued in her caption, “I am forever grateful for the greatest lesson of my life – no matter what challenges or obstacles I face, I will always have the strength to cultivate my own joy, and it is this joy that will continue to be one of my biggest forms of resistance. ✊🏽"

Till, which opened in theaters in October, follows the true story of Emmett Till and his mother Mamie Till-Mobley's fight for justice after his 1955 murder.

Hoax: The Kidnapping of Sherri Papini (8 p.m., Lifetime)

These Lifetime true crime movies can be fascinating. This week's offering stars Jaime King as Sherri Papini, who made national headlines as a mother of two who disappeared while jogging near her home in Redding, California. Everyone freaked out and searched for her, and then she magically reappeared three weeks later on Thanksgiving, claiming to have been kidnapped by two Hispanic women who tied her up and tortured her repeatedly. Yes, that didn't happen.

Sherry's return was celebrated, but the state never stopped searching for her kidnappers. Then, four years later, "Sherri's world came crashing down as evidence showed that her kidnapping was a hoax perpetrated by Sherri herself to spend time with her ex-boyfriend." She was arrested and eventually sentenced to 18 months in prison for lying to federal agents, creating hysteria in the community, and wasting police time and money with her nearly successful, elaborate scheme. Matt Hamilton plays Sherri's husband Keith.

Love in Glacier National: A National Park Romance (8 p.m., Hallmark)

It's a little more wholesome than the Hallmark Channel, with this week's movie featuring an avalanche forecaster who "brings her new technology to Glacier National Park, but soon faces resistance from the director of the Mountain Rescue Service, who is trained in intuition and common sense reason. Kanye West under investigation for robbery after grabbing woman's phone while filming: Watch

Kanye West, 45, is being investigated for robbery after a viral video emerged showing him grabbing a woman's phone and throwing it in the street. Sergeant Jason Karol of the Ventura County Sheriff's Department confirmed the news in a statement to Hollywoodlife on Saturday the 28th.

“On Friday, January 27th at 4:30 p.m., the Ventura County Sheriff's Department was called to an intersection in Thousand Oaks, California. When they arrived, they learned that Kanye 'Ye' West had taken the woman's cell phone and thrown it into the street,' the statement read. "He wasn't there when we arrived. Mr. West is being investigated for robbery. The matter is under investigation. Officers were provided with video footage of the incident." Karol also denied reports that the rapper was being investigated for "assault and battery."
